Wow. I’m amazed by the plethora of posts and love we got for Stacheketball in the first week of the new regime. I’m only hoping that we can keep it going and don’t fade out like other blogs and websites do. And, hopefully, we can continue to entertain you with all the NBA stuff that’s going on.
As of late, we’ve been bombarded with Carmelo Anthony rumors and such. Will he go to New Jersey? Will he go to New York? I honestly can’t wait for this one to be over. The funny thing is that, like Shane said, I think he’s leaving a good situation. I really wanna see that team in Denver give it one more shot with everybody healthy, including Coach George Karl. If it weren’t for those Trevor Ariza steals, then we might have been talking about how Denver could get back to the Finals or about how Carmelo Anthony was able to win a ring before LeBron James did.
But what I wanna talk about is one player who really definitely deserves to be in a better situation. I wish someone can hand Phoenix more support for Steve Nash. Even though we pretty much knew that the Lakers were going to win the Western Conference last year, the Suns and Nash got as close as ever to the title. It was another Conference Finals loss for the Suns and I will always remember the image of him crying after the game. I felt so bad for the man. The guy gives it his all. He never complains about wanting a better team, sticks with his Suns through thick and thin, and even plays through a broken nose… only he couldn’t because there was too much bleeding and the rules prevented him from finishing a critical playoff game. This man deserves another shot at the ring… and the current Suns team are not going to give him that shot at the moment.
Steve is not going to force a trade. That’s just not his nature. He pretty much earned the Kevin Garnett exemption, where he’s given everything to the franchise but yet ownership and management won’t give him the sufficient help he needs. Suns aren’t going anywhere at this point; they might as well start over and rebuild. Trade Nash. And if he goes to a bad team, the bad team should buy him out. And then imagine the options he has when he’s roaming around as a free agent.
Kinda wished Orlando went for him earlier, instead of Gilbert Arenas… but they can have another shot at getting him when he’s a free agent. Imagine Nash throwing lobs to Dwight Howard. Miami has always needed a guy at the 1. Imagine him feeding LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh all day. He’d be the perfect guy to run the break with. If Nash is perfectly content on a limited role, veteran teams like Boston, L.A., and San Antonio can always use a change-of-pace point guard. Anything. I just want to see Nash have one more legitimate shot at a ring.
Nash may or may not be dealt come the trade deadline. But if the Suns don’t turn around very soon (likely not) and sink deeper into the standings, they may not be left with much of a choice. Go rebuild, Phoenix. And free Steve Nash.
