UPDATED AT 5:59 P.M. EST: Kobe Bryant has been fined $100,000 for the slur. David Stern said there is no place for that in the game.

The NBA is reviewing Kobe Bryant’s rant as he appeared to have used a gay slur towards an official.

I’m not some social rights activist but ya know, Kobe is wrong for this. At the same time, I’m not an angel, either. All of us aren’t. So who am I to say this, right?

Kobe Bryant has since come out and set the record straight.

The thing is… players (people) use this kind of language all the time. It’s just that Kobe Bryant was caught on camera doing it. It’s just that it was done out of anger and that’s part of the vocabulary society uses to insult someone. It doesn’t make it right, though.

I’m sure next time Kobe will watch what he says. I’m sure NBA players will watch out as well now that one of the stars was caught saying it. Hopefully, the NBA does the right move after all the backlash this has caused. These guys are not only athletes; they’re also role models whether they’d like to be or not and they have to be better at that for the children that look up to them.
