The most talked about story this season was that of Carmelo Anthony and his desire to leave the Denver Nuggets.  A possible trade with the New Jersey Nets made many believe that it was all ending, even though his interest is to play for the Knicks.  The three-team trade would involve sending Anthony and Nuggets teammate Chauncey Billups to New Jersey.  The Nuggets would have received Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, and (possibly) two first round picks.  The Nets would also pick up Richard Hamilton and a first round pick.  The Pistons would take Troy Murphy.  The issues with the trade was Detroit wasn’t so willing to give up a draft pick, and ‘Melo wouldn’t sign an extension.  When asked about it, according to FanHouse, ‘Melo stated, “I ain’t talkin’ about that.”  Nets’ owner, Mikhail Prokhorov ended the hunt for ‘Melo, thus leaving him in Denver.  While more speculation of ‘Melo-to-the-Knicks has begun, there have been other trades speculation around the league.

There has been small talk that the Chicago Bulls (34-14) are looking to add a starting two-guard, and may be looking at Houston’s Courtney Lee and Cleveland’s Anthony Parker.  Although both are great prospects, there are standing issues: age and experience.  Parker is now 35, and past his peak.  Despite helping the Raptors reach the playoffs and clinch their first divisional title, he is diminishing.  He currently only shoots 38%, and may just be yet another role player on the Bulls’ roster.  Lee, who is in his third season, may not be experienced enough to start.  After Jameer Nelson’s injury, he started for the Magic, and was a starter in last season’s 12-70 Nets.  Lee is a great defender, but is still developing his potential.  Would he help or hurt Chicago?

The Indiana Pacers are built around Danny Granger, and he has stated that he wants to remain in Indiana.  However, there is speculation that the Pacers may trade him.  Larry Bird has stated that he would like to surround Granger with players that will help him than trade him to another team.  The newest trade rumor is that Ron Artest would like to be traded out of LA.  Earlier in the season, there were reports that he and Phil Jackson had issues in practice, but it was supposedly “blow out of proportion.”  The Lakers have struggled a bit recently, and the blame is easily placed on Artest, as he isn’t playing as well as last season.  Artest and sources close to the Lakers have stated that the rumors are false and he is not looking to be traded.  Only time will tell.

The trade deadline is in 20 days.
