If you haven’t done so already, you really need to check out our NBA Mustache Hall Of Fame, chronicling the finest in follicles growing on the upper-lips of NBA players over the decades. If you know of a deserved entrant to the HOF please email us the tip @ Stacheketball-at-gmail.com.
Today’s NBA mustache is a special one. Very special. Wilt ‘the Stilt’ Chamberlain sported one of the finest mos the NBA has ever seen and he wore it with style. Not only that, he had the game to back up the mane.
Wilt was arguably the greatest player to play the game — a debate that would be ably entered into by ‘His Airness’, Michael Jordan, but nonetheless, a debate. Chamberlain put up some gaudy statistics in his career. Perhaps none was more outrageous than the game on March 2, 1962, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, when Wilt scored 100 points — a record that is unlikely to be bettered.
Yesterday we celebrated the anniversary of that fine achievement — an achievement second only in magnitude to the number of women he claimed to have bedded during his life. In respect of the great man, we present two fantastic photos of Wilt Chamberlain from the Sports Illustrated Vault of rare images. Note the impressive growth on his upper lip in both.
