&*!@# scored 30 points?

The best part about the period after the NBA trade deadline, or even the silver lining amongst the clouds of a terrible injury to a teammate,  is finding out, “HEY, I’m my team’s best scorer!”

Looking at last week in NBA action, here are some inexplicable high-scoring feats from guys who find themselves with the basketball more than they did in the first half of the season.

Deng, I’m a scorer. Longtime Chicago Bulls inside guy Luol Deng led the club with 31 points on Wednesday, February 24 against Indiana.  It was his season high.  (The club traded John Salmons this week).

Thornton in the Cav’s side. To quote from NBA.com, describing how the the New Orleans Hornets stayed in their February 23 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers right up until the end: “One big reason was rookie guard Marcus Thornton, who looked more like LeBron James than LeBron James.  Thornton came off the bench to score a career-high 37 points, including a franchise-record 23 in the second quarter.” (Of course, the Hornets are without all-star point guard Chris Paul for an extended period with knee surgery).

A little extra Curry. You knew the rookie had it in him.  Stephen Curry scores 32 against the Hawks in a 108-104 victory for Golden State over Atlanta on February 21.  (Corey Maggette and Anthony Randolph are out with injuries to deplete GSW).

Action Jackson (a greatly underrated movie).  Stephen Jackson scored 35 on February 20th.  It was his third 30-point game of the month, and sixth game of last eleven with at least 29.   Charlotte has been a good move for him, with Golden State he averaged less than 17 points per game.  (Charlotte just NEEDS scoring).

Eric Gordon. He scored a season-high 30 points in the win over Sacramento on February 20.  I guess it took a new coach to let Commisioner Gordon shoot the rock.

I wonder who else will discover during this next week that they can score 30, even in the NBA?
